The City of Ottumwa Engineering Department is responsible for the design and construction of the City’s streets, bridges, sidewalks, sewer system, trails and other public improvements. We do in-house design work for a number of our smaller projects, project supervision, survey work and utility location services.

Our design work complies with Titles II and III of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA.) These standards set minimum technical requirements for newly designed and constructed or altered local government facilities such as sidewalks and street crossings to make them readily accessible to individuals with disabilities.

Street Reconstruction Selection Process

Goals of the selection process include preserving and/or improving the overall condition of city streets, providing the best street condition for the largest number of drivers, reducing maintenance costs, using an objective and repeatable process, and coordinating street improvement in an efficient manner.
