On Tuesday, March 24, 2020, at approximately 11:00 p.m., the Ottumwa Police Department received several 911 calls reporting gunshots in the 1000 Block of West Main Street. Police responded and found 11 spent shell casings in and near the roadway at that location. A suspect was identified after speaking with residents in the area of the shooting.
Officers processed the crime scene while other officers searched for the suspect. At approximately 12:30 a.m., the suspect and the vehicle believed to be involved in the shooting was located at 505 N. Market Street in Ottumwa. Police obtained a search warrant for 505 North Market, Apartment E. The search warrant resulted in the seizure of the handgun believed to have been utilized in the shooting and additional ammunition.
On Wednesday, March 25, 2020, at approximately 7:30 a.m., Ottumwa Police arrested and charged Romario Scott Eliacin, age 26, of 505 N. Market, Apt. E, was arrested and charged with the following:
Eliacin is being held in the Wapello County Jail with a $15,000 cash only bond.
